The City of Peoria is receiving Community Development Block Grant Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) funding from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to assist in our community’s response to COVID-19. The City is currently offering a utility assistance lottery program to help residents who are delinquent on their electric/gas (Ameren Illinois), water (Illinois American Water), or sewer (Greater Peoria Sewer and Sanitary District) bill.
UTILITY ASSISTANCE LOTTERY
Application period opens Monday, April 19th at 8:00 AM and closes Friday, May 14th at 5:00 PM.
This program will provide funds to renters and homeowners delinquent on electric/gas (Ameren) and/or water (Illinois American Water) bills due to COVID-19 impacts. Funds will be provided for up to six consecutive months (or $5,000 maximum) of delinquent electric/gas (Ameren) and/or water (Illinois American Water) payments to approved applicants. Pending HUD approval, delinquent Greater Peoria Sanitary District may be eligible as well (homeowners only).
The City will make payments directly to the utility companies.
HOW TO APPLY
If you are unable to access the online application below or print out your own application, you still have two options to apply.
1.Visit City Hall, Room 203, 419 Fulton Street, Peoria, IL 61602, Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM- Noon to pick up a paper copy.
2. Get started over the phone by calling Call Cassie Belter, Grants Coordinator at 309-369-2060.
A brief video training session will be available online on Monday, April 19th to guide applicants through the application process.
