As many of you probably have noticed, with the warmer temperatures and snow melting, litter is everywhere!

This week, staff will start our Community Cleanup program where we work side by side with volunteers and community leaders to clean up litter throughout our community.  We will continue to host these ‘pop-up events’ throughout the spring and summer and you are all welcome to join us.

Our first Community Cleanup is this Wednesday at 3:30 PM.  We will be meeting at two locations

734 West Main Street (the City parking lot on West Main near the Habitat for Humanity Restore and the Sunbeam Building)

1302 N Sheridan Road (Ted Bannon Neighborhood Park in the Armstrong-Ellis Neighborhood at the corner of Columbia Terrace/Sheridan)

We will provide trash bags, water, gloves, hand sanitizer, and garbage pickers. Please help us in promoting taking some time to pick up to help our City.  I know you didn’t create it and I know many of you do this on a daily basis and we are very appreciative of your work to maintain and improve your neighborhood. Even if the cleanup is not occurring in your neighborhood, you are invited to join us in our location and help improve other neighborhoods.

Anyone with questions can reach out to me or our Neighborhood Enhancement Coordinator Kaylee Drea at kdrea@peoriagov.org or 309.494.8624.  If you can’t join us Wednesday, follow our Instagram @AppreciatePeoria and our website AppreciatePeoria.com for future opportunities.  If you can’t join us, but find yourself inspired to action, please still consider spending some time in the next few weeks picking up litter and encouraging your family and friends to do so as well.
