On Thursday, February 21st, the City of Peoria Community Development Department hosted the first annual Neighborhood Reception at the Carver Center. The reception was held to honor neighborhood leaders and other Peoria citizens for their work and commitment to improving the Peoria community. Guest performances by Gary Moore, who spoke about Black History in Peoria’s neighborhoods, and P413 Dance Academy added to the event’s lively and fun atmosphere. Refreshments and snacks at the reception were provided by Las Delicias, Riley’s Cupcakes, Popcorn Heaven, CXT Coffee, and Chef and the Baker. Six types of awards were given out, including the Ted Bannon “Brick” Award, Business Award, Richard “Fuzzy” Lenz Award, Grass Roots Award, Youth Award, and Mayor’s award. Thank you to all that attended the event, and for the Community Development Staff for working hard to insure the Neighborhood Reception’s success. We are already looking forward to the 2020 reception!
