Last Friday several Community Development staff members volunteered with Peoria GreenSplash to plant native vegetation surrounding the upcoming new splash park and educational area. The public event was scheduled from 8:30 AM- 10:30 AM with volunteer members representing American Water Charitable Foundation, Public Works, National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), and other Peoria community members.
The splash park aims to provide a fun space for families and children, while also educating them about the environment, local plants, and protection of water resources. Outside play areas give children opportunities for physical activity as well as a chance to foster an appreciation for nature. The new splash park and educational area was made possible through a $150,000 Building Better Communities grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation and the NRPA. The splash park is located at the intersection of Griswold St. and Friedan St., and is projected to open in September.
